Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region fishing report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

Caught fishing with Bink's Guide Service yesterday. Image title

The level is 573 even and has risen less than 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with about three hours of running both generators and three hours of running less than one in the afternoon and evening. It is still creeping up even though they say the crest is today. It needs to stop as all of the other area lakes are dropping. The White River at Newport is at 13.57 feet and also dropping indicating not much is being let out of the lakes. They say the 4-lake sustem is 66% full so the stupid 12-ft. rule at Newport applies severely limiting the lakes drop. People need to write their congressman if they are tired of the needless high water and get the regulations reviewed and changed. The surface water temperature is in the mid to medium high 70's and rising slowly. It is to be cloudy and rainy for the next couple of days and then get hot for next week with summer here. We did receive about 0.2 inches of badly needed rain yesterday. The lake water remains clear and clean but the rising water is floating some big stuff away from the shore and into the creeks. A drop of just a few feet would make this stuff stick back to the bank. It is water logged and partially submerged and hard to see if you are going fast. Check out areas before dragging anything through them especially children. The evening bite for black bass is getting better on the old shoreline and thermocline which are both about 20-22 feet deep. Fish at less than 25-ft near the bottom with a 4-inch plastic worm. Top-water bite has slowed dramatically and the live bait and umbrella fishermen are back to dragging stuff through shad at different depths depending on the time of day. Crappie are in the backs of the creeks in about 20-ft. of water and caught casting a jig past the brush and letting it drop into it.  Catfishing has also slowed but some are being caught. Overall fishing is just fair. I was catching several walleye but not for the last day or two. I am catching about everything on the 1/4 or 3/8th spoon is 20-25 ft. of water tapping bottom. Blackburns now has two cabins just open up today so come on down. We have the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals and your first boat stall is free. We do not have boat stalls for one night cabin rentals. A two bedroom cabin is $108/day for four people and all are individual with no duplexes and all have big covered porches. We especially welcome Police and Veterans.
