The lake level is 557.70 and has risen 5-inches in the last 24-hours with 4-hours of both generators and two hours of one running. The White River at Newport is dropping and headed for 21-ft. It is 21.5 feet now and they have reduced discharge dramatically. The first of May it goes down much more and there is little chance of the lake dropping any time soon. They had their chance and muffed it. We will be lucky to see the power pool again unless we have a drought and there are no signs of that with rain in the forecast. The surface water temperature has dropped to 54 on the main lake and 58 in Blackburns Creek. The fish do not know what to do but the crappie are spawning anyway and the bass want to very badly. The top-water fish are not coming up everyday but are on most mornings after a warm night. I hear find the bait and you will find the fish over and over until it gets very old like people do not know that. Follow the loons is just about as bad. It is not necessarily true for spawning fish. They do not have food on their mind but will have when they are finished. There is a lot of bait in the warmer creeks now in shallow water ( crawdads, lizards and creek minnows) and that is where a lot of pre-spawn and post-spawn fish are. Some temperate bass are in open water on shad but are hard to find. After the spawn the fry will move to any cover and especially brush piles and will attract fish in the warmest water. I have seen spawned out crappie but no fry yet and have not seen any bass on beds but the water is still too cloudy. It is clearing though with the low generation. We need some 60-degree water and the fish will come up every morning for a month and that is fun fishing. I am tired of cold fronts and it is very cool now and rainy. Sometimes when this pattern happens we go from cold directly into summer. I like spring but sometimes it is very short. People are catching some nice fish everyday but not a lot.
