Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

The lake level is 555.45 and has dropped one inch in the last 24-hours with one generator running most of the time. The White River at Newport is 23.34 and has dropped a bit lately but they are still letting out a lot of water from area lakes and all are approaching the power pool again where they typically slow down generation. It was cold last night and we had frost but it is sunny and warming up nicely today with much less wind. It is to get warmer and warmer as the week goes on and then good chances of storms in the middle of next week. It is really good to have sunshine. We have had several fishermen out there braving the wind and cold and catching some fish. Bass, crappie, bluegill are the best but a few walleye, catfish and stripers are also being caught. The hardest part was not finding fish but finding them out of the wind. The next few days should get some of the bass and crappie on the beds at various stages. It will be interesting to see if the bass come up on top-water this morning after the cold night. If they do the bite will continue most days from now on for nearly two months but will get less and less as the water warms up to near 70's. The bass continue to spawn into June on Norfork. Get a Zara Spook or a Spitin Image and learn how to walk the dog with a rod with some backbone. The Whopper Plopper also works especially for people who are not good at that. The spitin image is best for bass and the spook is best for Temperate Bass. Get out there on the normal spots for top-water before sunrise and especially after a warm night. This is a good time of year to catch fish of about all species. Catfishing will get started in earnest soon.
