Norfork Lake Arkansas Near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

The lake level is 553.39 and has dropped 4-inches in the last 24-hours with both generators running continuously. All area lakes are now below power pool and Southwest Power takes over generation schedules. I expect them to slow down generation on Norfork this evening but we will see. The White River at Newport is 21-feet still but dropping. They could keep it at 21-feet until April 14th if they wanted too. The surface water temperature was 48 in Blackburns Creek yesterday afternoon and 50 on the main lake and the ambient temperature is 54 now and warming nicely already even with the time change. The water was still stained but clearest near the bank. The ambient temperature struggled to get to 39 degrees but most of the snow melted except on the north side of things and out of my boat. We received three inches but it went away a lot faster than the last one and there was no ice. Another storm is coming down from the northwest on about tuesday but it looks like the gulf air will meet the low pressure south of us this time with some severe weather in Texas, Louisiana and southern Arkansas. The jury is out on what will happen here. Hopefully nothing but a little rain. I am ready for warmer weather but not the storms it brings. March is not 1/2 over yet and anything could happen. We will open up the last five cabins next week anyway and take what we get. I have been getting several boats ready for spring and have 10 of them ready to go with three of them rented this week. People are anxious to get out and some are on spring break. It is busy here already.  Come on down. We will not charge you too much and your first boast stall is free. We will help you launch if needed. The lake is at a good level and the water a good color for fishing. Several fish are back in the creeks. The water will warm this week with the warm weather. Bass are the best bite now followed by crappie and small stripers. A few walleye are showing up in the evening on soft plastics like a fluke or bass assassin on shadowy banks. Stay out of the sunshine unless you are fishing deep open water. I do not do that anymore and get tired of looking instead of fishing. Gas is about $4.15 for unleaded regular non-alcohol. Everything else is good. You do not have to go far from Blackburns to get to good fishing. I expect some good numbers caught for the Arkansas Youth Bass Nation High School and Jr. tournament today. We have a couple of them staying here this weekend and wish them well.
