Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

Rum Binkley with some big Norfork Lake crappie. I do not know where else you can catch crappie like these. That girl can drive a spoon. Image title

The lake level is now at 553.91 and is approaching the power pool of 553.75 when most of the generation control is turned over to Southwest Power Administration who typically reduce generation as soon as they get it. Maybe they need some power somewhere and will continue to drop the lakes. It dropped 1-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours and they stopped generating at midnight and just started again. The White River at Newport is 21.82 feet so they are letting out quite a bit. I will see what the snow does to the water temperature later today. It was a nice day yesterday but that is over and it is cold and snowing and is to get down into the teens tonight and then start warming up again on sunday afternoon. At least it is not hanging around for very long. Our guests from Kansas City left wednesday and said they got about 6-inches yesterday and are glad they did not have to pull their boats on the icy roads. I agree with that. We have other guests from Florida and they are not liking the snow but are buying a home here anyway and said the prices were better here. The Mountain Home area is growing rapidly and I am not sure how much I like that. Gas prices are $4.13 for regular non-alcohol, I know I do not like that. I like to put premium non-alcohol in my boats but cannot afford it now. Everyone caught fish yesterday and bass fishing is getting better and better back in the creeks. Crappie fishing is steady and striper fishing during the day has slowed but they will be on the banks about next wednesday for their after-dark spring bite. Remember to turn you clocks forward satuday night. I do not carry a phone or clock and watch the sun but it will take me a while to get used to the change again. Sunrise and sunset are the important times for me and I do not care much what time it is except for happy hour. I do not think the snow will amout to much and next week looks good. Come on down to Blackburns. We will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free.
