Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region fishing report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

Dave Titus is back and catching some good ones already. Image title

The lake level is 554.05 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with generation about 3/4th the time. The ground is still saturated and water is still running into the lake from the hillsides after the last rain. The White River at Newport is 21.76 so they are letting out about all they can without hurting anybody downstream. The surface water temperature was 52 yesterday on the main lake in the sunshine and the water was still stained on the main lake and cleared a bit in the creeks but overall a good color for fishing.  The water temperature starts to drop immediately after sunset and so does the ambient temperature especially on clear days. This is the last day of good weather and there is a winter advisory from 9AM tomorrow until 6:PM with dropping temperatures during then day with snow and sleet and then cold on friday night and saturday. They say 1-3 inches. Several of our fishermen are heading home today and I do not blame them. I do not like to pull a boat trailer anytime but especially on slick roads. Sunday looks to be better and then into the 70's later in the week. Our normal high is 58.These cold fronts just keep coming. It was in the early 50's with sunshine and light winds when I went out yesterday afternoon. I caught nothing until about 4PM and then both the bass and crappie started to bite for about 1/2 hour on brush out of the sunshine in about 25-30 feet of water. I was casting past the brush and they were hitting on the drop about 10-ft. down on the jig. I caught my self-imposed limit of five crappie along with a couple of smaller bass and then went bass fishing again on shadowy banks and caught two nice ones. Several of the crappie were very large in the 14-15 inch range and fat. I will give it another try today after work. We will open up the last five cabins after the inside painting and remodeling is finished next week. A lot of improvements have been done since last fall and you will like what you see when you get here. No we are not raising our prices tomorrow or any time in the near future until the normal increase at Memorial Day, so come on down and not pay too much elsewhere. Your first boat stall is free. Yes we do especially welcome Veterans and Police. I am a Veteran but do not have any experience in Police work except for a few encounters but I did not flee or resist arrest. I was young and foolish but not that foolish.
