Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozark Mountains Region fishing report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental

The lake level is 554.05 and has dropped a little over 2-inches in the last 24-hours with both generators running about 1/2 the time. It has dropped about 9-inches from it's high of 554.82 last week. It is approaching the bottom of the power pool where Southwest power takes over and they typically slow generation when they take over and then keep generating after the lake gets at a good level without regard for how low it gets. Both are incompetent but you cannot expect much from the government. When the water gets high this year they cannot say they did not have a chance to lower it in the winter. The last time the power company took over they let the White River at Newport get almost dry and refused to generate. The main lake is pretty clear and the creeks are still stained a bit but we are at a good level now and the water is a good color for fishing and is about 57-degrees. Blackburns is nearly full of fishermen and they are all catching fish and helping each other. It got a little windy again yesterday and was just short of white caps. It was warm and in the early 70's and a very nice late December day. We are headed for spring and they can keep the wind, ice and snow for the people that like it. The bass, crappie and bluegill remain the best bite and are being caught by various methods. Open water fish are showing up part way back in the creeks and different species are together. White bass, hybrids and small stripers are all together with a few largemouth mixed in. Big crappie, bass and bluegill are on brush in 35-ft. of water at various depths. They do not bite for several hours and then all start at once so you have to be persistent and you will catch fish. We are getting several calls and E-mails everyday with the same questions. 1) No we are not for sale. I guess several are. 2) No we are not raising prices. I guess several are. 3) No we are not closed. I guess several are. 4) No we are not on vacation. I guess several are. We are spending your money on improvements not vacations and could use a little more so come on down. You will be welcome, we will help you catch fish and will not charge you too much. Veterans and law enforcement are especially welcome. We like them. Big fishing day today.
