Mike with some of last evening's catch. I do not usually take pictures of white bass but this was a pretty good one compared to the others.
The lake level is 552.83 and has dropped 1-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with about 5-hours of running both generators and 3-hours of running one. The White River at Newport is now 3-1/2 feet. It was warm and windy when I went out yesterday afternoon with an ambient temperature of about 70 and a surface water temperature of about 59. Thhe wind was coming from the south and there were whitecaps but the fish were biting. I caught walleye, bass, crappie and bluegill and Mike caught the same except he caught several white bass that were schooled on one brush pile. Dave caught some nice crappie and Tom some bass. The wind died about 4:PM and it was easier to fish until dark. We were all using Bink's Spoons except tom who was bass fishing with his plastic worm. I switched back and forth to the jig in the heavy wind and back to the spoon when it quit and caught fish on both. It stormed last night and we received about 3/4 of an inch of rain here at Blackburns and now it is cold with the cold front doing it's job very well. They just keep coming through this time of year but it is to warm back up in the middle of the week. It is to be in the mid 40's for the next couple of days for a high and the normal high is 49. This should weed out the fair weather fishermen. Everyone was fishing brush piles in 25-35 feet of water and several species of fish were all there. It was too windy for open water fishing but I do not do that much anymore anyway. We will see how the cold front affects fishing this time. It never does it any good but usually does not stop the bite but just slows it. Sometimes a lot. The wind stained up the lake a little but it is still in excellent condition for fishing and at a good level. Needless to say I do not like winter and never complain about how hot it is. I served my time in cold states and have no desire for snomobiling, cross-country skiing or ice fishing. Did that.
