Norfork Lake fishing report and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The lake level is 556.20 and is exactly what it was at this time yesterday with no generation. The White River at Newport is dropping like a rock and is now below 11-ft. The so called 12-ft. rule does not apply when the power pool is approaching. They are missing a good chance to drop the lake. It is at a good level now though and I wish it would stay that way. Both the main lake and the creeks are clear from the surface but are still cloudy until you get below the thermocline. This is normal for early September but it will get better as the water cools. September and October are an excellent time for Scuba Diving. I usually quit for the year just before Halloween. The lake surface water is 83 degrees and dropping slowly with the cooler nights and shorter days. The normal high is now 82-degrees and the normal low is 60. Fishing remains about the same with walleye getting harder to catch especially the bigger ones. Bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish are the best bite now and some trollers are catching a few small stripers. Some fish are suspended in a little deeper water just outside the brush but most are still in the 30-ft. range wheather suspended or near the bottom. I am having my best luck in brush at 32-ft. of water but am catching some bass in shallower brush in the evening. Main lake points are the best. Many fish are also under docks in the shade. The weather has been great and the lake in general is in very good condition. Come on down. We will not charge you too much.
