Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The lake level is 558.94 and has risen 5-inches in the last 24-hours. They quit generating yesterday evening and just started up again about an hour ago. We missed most of the rain and storms yesterday and just received about 0.2 inches of rain. Much more was predicted. I had a 57 degree water temperature yesterday afternoon when I went out and the creek just stained up a little but is still pretty clear. The new brush that we put in under and around the dock are all full of fish. Most of the fish that I am catching now are either shallow when it is warm and the sun is shining or deeper when it is cool. Stick baits, crank baits and small grubs are working best when they are shallow and spoons and jigs when they are deeper. It is very cool today and is not to warm up much until later this weekend. It is a typical March with variable weather and cold fronts coming through about twice a week. The normal high is now 61 and we will not see that for a few days and the water will not warm any until we get some more warmer nights. The overnight lows near freezing will not help things out any. Bass and crappie fishing is the best  with some stripers being caught in the 8-10 lb. range up in Bennetts. I do not fish up there much. I mostly fish where I also scuba dive and the visibility is almost never good up there until later in the fall. Right now the lake is clearing but the debris that is in the water is mostly moving with the wind and is scattered. The stuff is not nearly as big or nearly as much as in 2017. There are plenty of good places to fish with the right colored water and the brown water is dissipating rapidly that has come down from Missouri with the junk in it and it will stick to the bank if the water ever starts to drop again. It is a very small problem. I am catching and releasing some very nice fish everyday but it is sometimes difficult to get out of the wind which seems to be blowing about three out of four days but if it did not it would never dry out. Blackburns has several good fishermen in  taking advantage of the best prices on the lake on both cabins and boat rentals with their first boat stall free and the price is $59/day for a one bedroom cabin for two. We will see what happens in the next few days. I bet some nice fish will be caught.
