Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The lake level is 554.14 and has risen 6-inches in the last 24-hours. They did start generating this morning but shut it right back down after two hours. They have just started it up again now. This is not the level that we want going into March and the rainy season. It needs to be six feet lower.  There has been ample time to lower the area lakes last fall and this winter.  It is a very good thing we have had below average moisture so far this year with the reluctance to let any water out. At least some generation has begun after about a week of nothing. I though I saw someone with a paint brush of never seize and a can of WD-40 trying to free the generator gates that had been stuck shut from lack of use when I went by today but am not sure. Fishing continues to be slow. Bink took one of our guests out today and only caught three fish in 4-hours. When the legend can only do this you can be sure it is not easy. I will keep trying and will give you a report. People predicting what and when things need to happen before things get better sure did not predict this would happen, especially in mid February.  You just have to be out there with the right lure in the right place and be persistent. You cannot go out every so often and write a report. It is not worth anything. Tom Kelly did catch and release several nice bass and a walleye from his trophy pond today so they are biting somewhere. He was using the stick bait. Maybe he will give me permission to fish it.  I am not going to get a can of corn and a Zebco 202 and trout fish quite yet. I have faith. The only things that I am sure of is that we do not need anymore rain for a long while, I do not have very good luck in brown water on Norfork lake and shad stink.
