It cools off fast after sunset but that is the best bite. Released under the dock last night.
The lake level is 553.29 and is rising slightly with no generation since yesterday afternoon. The White River at Newport is 10+ feet. The weather was beautiful yesterday with highs in the mid 50's with light wind and sunny. The high pressure has settled in and the fishing is getting better. I went bass fishing yesterday and had a very good time. I caught and released my limit of largemouth with the largest being over 21-inches. The surface water temperature was still 57 degrees and the water clarity was the same. I was spooning brush in 30-ft. of water and tapping bottom. I fished until dark and did not want to come in. When I cannot see my line good things do not happen for me. The bite was not fast but a fish about every 15-minutes was caught. Other guests caught bass and crappie also with some very nice crappie taken. The large bluegill continue to bite but the walleye have slowed. Some got into a school of stripers after looking for three days and killed all of them. They were about 10-lbs. It looks like they will not quit until they are all gone. Some White Bass are showing up and that is good but not very many and they used to be caught almost at will. Not now. The bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish population is very good here on Norfork. Many walleye just short were being caught and that is a good sign for the future. I am glad there is an 18-inch limit. It is really fun catching them and there is no need to go north in the spring for them when they are right here. I will go bass fishing again today and then catch some crappie for Bob Knight later in the week. It will be embarrassing if I cannot find any. The big ones are showing up again as the moon gets smaller. Bink predicted this. The lake in general is in excellent condition and the nice weather is bringing out more fishermen, especially on the weekend. Fishing overall is just fair but some very nice fish are being caught everyday.
