Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The lake level is 571.92 and has dropped about 2-inches in the last 24-hours. They quit generating at night and start again in the morning to keep the level up as high as they can for as long as they can while we are in very dry conditions and the areas where the electricity is sold is experiencing high temperatures requiring lots of electricity. In the spring when the rains come they open the flood gates and waste the water.  Go figure. Sounds like bad management to me. Where did this 12-ft. rule for the White River at Newport come from?  Nobody seems to know but it sure is followed closely and at all costs. Things should get back to normal after labor day unless it finally rains. Everything is still very busy with people really wanting to get out even for a short time. The lake surface temperature is in the high 80's and the lake is in good condition for swimming and boating. Tom Kelly, Binks and the Sims family are all catching fish everyday but overall fishing is just fair. Get out early, take the middle of the day off and go put about 5:30 PM and fish until dark. Bink is using his spoon for stripers deep and the rest are catching bass on plastic worms. Blackburns does not not now allow any dragging of anything behind any of our boats except for the ski boat and it has a three day minimum. You can stay here and rent a boat from one of our marina friends if you need to drag something. It was just not working out for us. We have many boats for just everyday use of cruising, swimming and fishing.
