Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

George fishing in the trophy pond. He loves to fly fish for bluegill so I put some big ones in for him. Image title

The lake level is 570.48 and has dropped about two inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and four spillway gates open one foot. That is about all they can do for now as they are determined to get Table Rock down to normal at all costs. The lake is clearing and is in excellent condition for fishing but it is a little tough to get the fish out of the old shoreline and the brush. The crappie that I caught yesterday had spawned and the bass are getting ready. I had a 69 degree surface temperature in Blackburns creek yesterday and people were swimming in the lake. I will go diving when it hits 70 though but I have an 8-mil wetsuit with hood. It looked like the threadfin shad had spawned and I look for the top water bite to really get started in earnest soon.  It had been sporatic. The full moon and the dropping of the lake level slowed fishing a bit but we still caught some good ones. All of the bass and crappie were released under the dock but the catfish were released in a skillet with some fried taters and mushrooms. Norfork lake catfish are really good and flatheads are the best. I have not caught any of them yet though but I bet I will. Just a few more days and I will be walleye fishing. Life is good. People are catching some very nice fish out of Tom Kelly's trophy pond and we like that.
