Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

Caught some pretty good ones yesterday.Image title

The lake level is 559.25 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with both generators running continuously. We received about 0.6 inches of rain last week. The water is still brown in the Red Bank area but is clearing out near Blackburns in both the creek and main lake. It is kind of a greenish color. You can see your lure down about 2-feet.  The surface temperature is 48 and has been for several weeks. Fishing is not the best but trollers are catching a few fish in open water but it is taking them a lot of time to get them. They go out and catch some and then you do not hear from them for several days because they are not catching any. Bink is on other open water fish with his spoon but is still disappointed in the size. You have to catch a lot of fish to get a big one. He is catching a lot of fish though. I am bass and crappie fishing. Crappie are on brush at 25-feet but are very hard to catch. They do not bite for hours and then bite fast for about 5-minutes. I caught some good ones yesterday but had to work for them. The bass that I am catching are on the bank but are mostly small. They are in the buckbrush. March can be tough fishing with all of the cold fronts moving through. Wait for the low pressure and fish until it rains you out and then after the high pressure moves in wait a day or two and they will start biting again. The first day of sunshine has been slow. We need the lake to drop to the high 540's before the spring rains come. They better keep generating or they will be opening gates whether they want to or not. The water level does not affect fishing much except when it comes too fast.  Blackburns still has the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals and your first boat stall is free. All cabins have covered porches and none are duplexes. Why pay more? I will show you where the brush piles are when you get here.  We have some good ones.
