Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The lake level is 559.69 and has raised about one foot in the last 24-hours with little generation. It looks to go over 560 again and winter is passing. I guess they will continue to hold and hope and then open spillway gates and waste free water. Hold until the crops are planted and up and then flood them out when they are left with no choice. It is not what you do when you are in this situation but how you got here. Do not get here. This is to be the coldest night of the year and then warm way up later this weekend. Surface water temperature is holding in there at 47+ degrees and the main lake is clearing with the creeks muddy. The temperate bass have been in the same places for about two months and continued the pattern of feeding shallower early and then moving to deeper water on the flats in 50-70 feet of water, but have recently moved. I will have to find them again. There are reports of them being in Bennetts but I do not fish that area much. The brush piles are getting too deep again but we anticipated this and put some new ones shallower. Some bass are shallow on the bank early and late. Fishing is not the best but trollers are finding some fish after many miles of dragging live bait and umbrellas. It is a good thing that we have hybrids as big stripers are getting more and more scarce. If people keep killing them this trend will continue.   I do not do troll but prefer spooning. I will take a day off and then look for them in float creek on secondary points just outside brush in the clear water when it warms a little. Ambient temperatures tend to vary widely this time of year but we get several good fishing days. Just fish around cold fronts.
