Norfork Lake fishing, lake conditions and fall foliage report by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The lake level is 557.20 and has dropped about 1/2 inch with one generator running. The other is down for maintenance. You would think they would do the maintenance the last six months when they were shut down.  We received about 1-1/2 inches of rain last night and the creeks run hard. The fall doliage is just starting to turn with the sumac turning on the roadways and some ornamental trees and shrubs getting yellow and red.  Not much change on the hillsides yet. I cannot tell if it will be good yet but it usually is if it is not dry. The grass is green and still growing. The weather is much cooler today after 80 yesterday with a cold front coming through.  It is to be in the 70's again early next week. We have several good fishermen in now and they are catching mostly walleye, crappie and bluegill. A lot of the bass caught are small with many short ones coming up in the creeks in the evening. i am still seing no white bass. It is too cool to go diving this weekend so I will pole fish. It is easier anyway but not as fun. It looks to be a good fall for fishing and the lake is in excellent condition both for level and water clarity and there are lots of fish. Fish kills and too many dead small stripers pictured lining the dock floors have hurt the red meat fish population but we will see. They stock a lot of them and they grow fast.
