Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The lake level is 557.88 and has risen 2-inches in the last 24-hours with no generation since early yesterday afternoon. They are still running Table Rock hard to protect Branson and keeing it at a normal level. We just received a 10% chance of a shower a few minutes ago and it has quit now and is very cloudy.  Should be very good for fishing all day.  The top water bite yesterday morning was mostly small white bass but at least something came up. I am just not seeing very many stripers being caught now.  Tom Kelly reports catching some very large bass in float creek yesterday and releast all of them on the spot on his shakey head worm. Having these big bass tournaments right in the middle of the spawn really hurts the fish and I am glad they are not here this weekend. They may release all their fish but catching the bass off their nests and leaving them unprotected for just a few minutes allows the bluegill to eat the eggs all up and quickly. The lake has been rising steadily for a few weeks with little generation but not fast enough to hurt the spawn. We just do not need a big rise or drop in level at one time like we did the year before last the last day of April when the Corps of Engineers were the only ones that were surprised and not prepared for one large rain. We should be 5-ft. lower now at least.  We have not receives more than average rainfall for the last two months.  When I hear their representatives say That is what the dams are for is too hold water it gets annoying. They are to help prevent floods not hold water all year. You have to know when to hold em and know when to dump em and take advantage of dryer periods.  I saw Harvey Hall out on the water yesterday and it was good to see him. He was catching crappie as usual. All of the fish that he caught were spawned out females and said smaller fish were showing up indicating the spawn was about over. Walleye are getting better everyday as are catfish. I fish catfish hard when the carp are spawning and they are. Blugill are the biggest predator for crappie and catfish are the same for carp. This is a fun time of year. Come on down. We will not charge you too much, put you in a duplex or charge for your first boat stall. You can save at least $30/day by staying here.
