Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

Bink with a couple of yesterday's catch.  Those are some nice fish.Image title

The lake level is 554.72 and has risen 2-inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously. They have now opened 4-spillway gates one foot and that is equavilant to less than 1/2 generator but it should be enough to keep the level stable. We ended up the month of march with about 1/2 the average rainfall. That is good. They should have dropped the lake much more but continue to slow the discharge at Newport and lower the level. It is now just over 17-feet heading for 14-feet for some reason. This needs to be explored, investigated and changed. The weather is still cool today with the temperature near 50 which is 15-degrees below normal. It is to get to near 70 by about wednesday. Bass fishing continues to be very good with several good ones caught yesterday. Bink caught some big ones. I cannot keep them off my trot line.  White bass is second and some male crappie are moving back in the creeks getting ready to stage before the females join them. The night bite has slowed a bit for stripers. It has been cold and cloudy and they like that moon shining in their faces and it is small now.  Full moon is the 19th and the simulated spawn will be over by then and the top-water bite will be here if the weather warms and the nighttime lows stay in the 50's. I usually tell people the top-water bite typically starts in earnest about the 15th.  It will start before then. Crappie will be on the banks by then. This is a good time for a fishing trip.  Come on down. We will not charge you too much. The improvements at the resort continue. Why pay more? Easter egg hunt on the 20th.
