Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

Tomorrow will be April and the lake is in excellent condition. The level now is 554.59 and has risen about 2-inches in the last 24-hours with a little less than 1-inch of rain total and one generator running continuously. The level of the White River at Newport is under 18-feet and headed for 14 with the discharge there being reduced everyday. The ground was fairly dry and there was little runoff with the rain. The creeks did not run. There is always runoff from the rocky hillsides. The day started off nice and went down hill from there with the temperature dropping into the 40's by afternoon with a cold north wind. The bass bite continued to be good all day and some very nice ones were caught. Crank baits, Alabama Rigs and grubs were all working. It frosted last night and is to repeat tonight and temperatures are to rebound to near 70 in the middle of the week. I put in a trot line last evening and am ready to catch some catfish. So far only bass have hit the shiners. With the new moon coming on the 5th and the lake slowly rising conditions should be good. The bluegill have moved in under the dock and that is what I wait for. The Norfork Lake chamber had a fishing tournament yesterday with about 60-boats entered. The winner had about 18-lbs with the big bass over 6-lbs. That is an indication of how good the pre-spawn bass fishing is now. Blackburns continues to have one bedroom cabins for $59/day for two people and have the best prices on Boat rentals and do not charge for your first boat stall or trolling motors on pontoon boats. No duplexes here and all cabins have covered porches. No spring price increases until Memorial day. Best place best price.
