The lake level is 553.69 and has dropped over one inch in the last 24-hours with more generation. The surface temperature was almost 52 when I went out yesterday afternoon and the ambient temperature was in the mid 50's with very light wind. I tried a couple of the new brush piles put in by game and fish and got nothing and then moved to an old stand-by place at about 4:PM and the fish started biting. I was using a jigging spoon for bass and a slip float for crappie. Caught both. A couple of the crappie were very large. Almost every day the fish do not bite very well for me until just at sunset and continue until it is too dark to see. Four big crappie in the 13-15 inch range were caught and two keeper bass in 1-1/2 hours. Not good but not bad. The weather has been great with showers for tomorrow. That will not hurt anything. The lake is in excellent condition and the fishing in general is just fair with open water fishermen having a little trouble finding schooled and feeding fish except for white bass. It is just good to be out there. Get off the sofa and come on down. Blackburns is open all year and will not charge you too much.
