Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The new news is that they have been generating heavily for the last 24-hours and the lake has dropped 3-inches and is at 565.38. Newport has dropped to 12-feet and we are very fortunate that we have not received a large spring rain. We are very dry but have a chance for some rain the next souple of days. None yet. Most of my brush piles are too deep now and there is not much reason for the fish to get on them with so much submerged brush and no thermocline yet. When the thermocline forms the fish will be right in it or just above. As the water warms and the thermocline gets deeper the fish will be right below it. It will form soon and I will let you know.  The shad and fry are in and just outside of the exposed brush where the shoreline was before the water rise in 14-18 feet and the big fish are with them. I am catching some nice walleye bottom bouncing a Lindy rig and nightcrawler. Set your trolling motor on low and using a long rod, go as fast as to keep spinner is working and keep dipping your rod up and down. I am fishing main lake cuts where there is exposed brush. White bass are on the flats on Mallard point. Crappie fishing is not as good as it was but some are with all of the other fish. They are catching several off the dock but I prefer to keep them for the children and handicapped people. They get fed well everyday with both catfish food (floating) and chicken feed (sinking). Soft plastic bass assassins (5-in.) either with a weighted nose hook or carolina rigged cast behind the brush and keeping the nose dropping as much as possible is working as are top water poppers. Spoons and anything small with a spinner are working for white bass. Please quit killing these 5-8 lb. small stripers and release them immediately. They are not big and do not dress out very well anyway. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental still has 1-bedroom cabins for $53/day and all are single units with no duplexes and all have covered porches. Ist boat stall free for normal sized boats. Come on down we will not charge you too much.
