Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental

Mike Eakle with some nice ones diving Blackburns Brush Piles yesterday. We like these and know where they are located. Image title

The lake level is 556.20 and is approcahing the top of the power pool of 555.75 and we will see if they slow way down with the generation like they usually do when they get there.  The lake dropped 2-3/4 inches in the last 24-hours with 1-3/4 generators running for about 18-hours. The White River at Newport is 7.88 feet and very low indicating not much water is being released into the White River. The weather has been beautiful this week but it is to get hot, dry and sunny for the next week with little or no chance of rain. The lake is in excellent condition for the upcoming Labor Day weekend with a large crowd expected. Many people want to take advantage of the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks here at Blackburns.   Blackburns is scheduled to be full and Debbie is turning away lots of people and the phone is ringing constantly. We wish we had room for all of you but I have no interest in expanding. Blackburns goes on their off-season rates September 3rd and you can get a 1-bedroom cabin for $69/day and a 2-bedroom for $89/day and you cannot beat that. Plus a free stall for your boat at our big dock comes with a cabin rental of 2-days or more.  It is nice here and the price is right. Scuba Steve will show you where his brush piles are located when you get here and he has some good ones. He cuts them from his 28-acre Cedar forrest and installs them in the best places. They need thinned anyway. Bink is catching some nice Walleye and a few Stripers and some of our guests are catching Bass and Bluegill. The Stripers are moving deeper. The thermocline is at 31-feet but not very pronounced and the very cold water that has nothing to do with the summer thermocline is at about 45-feet. People see the denser water on their graph and think it is the thermocline but it is not. It is always there and the sun never penetrates it but it does change a few feet during the year. There is a lot of bait fish following the Plankton blowing with the wind back in the creeks in the evening in 25-35 ft. of water. They are mostly small Bass, White Bass and Gar. Anything with a spiinner with some weight on it like a Rooster Tail will catch them. The surface water temperature is 82-degrees and cooler than normal for this time of year but will warm again after this week with the heat and possibly less generation. Fishing is not the best but if you know what you are doing you can catch some. Kentucky Bass, and Bluegill are the best bite but some nice Crappie and Walleye are being caught but not a lot. It will get better. I am scuba diving for Crappie most of the time.Call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. The big pool with slide and baby pool is open and ready for your visit. We keep it open until it gets cold.
