The lake level is 556.68 and has dropped 2-inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously. They completely closed the spillway gates two days ago. The White River at Newport is 9.26 feet and normal so there is plenty of room to let out more water. Scuba Steve would like it at 552 to make room for a big rain. They have been all around us but we have avoided them so far. The surface water temperature is 89-degrees and the water is clear down to 17-feet and to 23-feet in some places. There is a mud line from 23-30 feet with cold water underneath. The thermocline starts at 28-feet and is gradual. The best bites right now are Kentucky Bass, Walleye and Catfish. Open water fishermen are catching some smaller Hybrids and Stripers but all of them die when brought up. It is a good time to quit fishing for them. Venting does not work. There are some Crappie and bass on main lake points brush piles at the end of the points. Drop a small spoon on their heads. Everything is in the summer pattern and moving deeper except for the bass that come up shallow at dark to feed on crawdads. Catfishing off Scuba Steve's Dock after dark has been very good. The lake overall is in excellent condition for fishing, diving, swimming and boating. Boat traffic is minimal during the week. Now is the time to plan a trip to Norfork lake and Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental. No week-long stay needed and we have the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks. Compare prices and call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. It is nice here and the price is right.
