Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

12/23/2025

The lake level is 549.33 and stable with both generators running for two hours. The White River at Newport is 2,00 feet and about ready to dry up indicating not much water is being released anywhere. The surface water temperature is 51+ degrees and the ambient temperature is very warm. The creeks are clearing again but changes almost daily. Scuba Steve can see his lure down about 3-4 feet on the main lake.  We are very dry and need some rain badly. Overall the lake is at a good level and in good condition for fishing and some nice fish are being caught everyday. Crappie and smaller Stripers are the best bite and the best times are early morning and about 4:PM. Stripers are schooled on shad on the flats and on windblown banks. Crappie are on or in front of cover and move in shallow in the evening to feed. Vertical jigging spoons for Stripers in the shad and a jig or small grub tipped with a small minnow are best for Crappie. Bass fishing is fair with Kentuckies being the most caught. A few Walleye are feeding in the evening a little deeper than the crappie. Trollers are dragging umbrellas and weighted crank baits through the shad and catching some White bass. Several schools of Shad are holding no predator fish so you have to do some looking. The best way is if you see some lethargic Shad that have been wounded by the Stripers feeding below and the Bass feeding on top, drop a spoon right under them, That is where the stripers will be feeding. Now is the time, when the family is together for the holidays, to plan your spring fishing trip and your summer family vacation.
