Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

9/8/2025

The lake level is 555.93 and has dropped 3-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with a mixture of 1/3rd generator and 1-1/3rd generator running. We are approaching the everchanging top of the power pool of 555.75 which is where the Southwestern Power Administration takes over control of the generation schedule. It drops to 553.75 at the end of the month. It used to stay at 552 all of the time. They typically slow down generation substantially and hold the lake up too high when we reach those levels. We will see but there is not much hope for any improvement in generation practices as long as the government is involved and the Corps Of Engineers and the Southwestern Power Administration are both government and one hand does not know what the other is doing. They like to keep the level just one big rain away from being flooded. The lake is still stained green with an algae bloom but should start to clear soon. The visibility is not good. The level has dropped to where Scuba Steve's Brush piles are at the right level and fish are on them but not feeding very well. Crappie and Bluegill are the best bite but Catfish and Bass are picking up. The jigging spoon is your best bet for a lure in and around brush that is in 30-feet or less and sticks up to about 18-20 feet. Main lake points are your best places to start. There are several fish around Robinson Island in the big rocks.  Mostly Bass and Walleye. Drop the spoon on their heads and get reaction strikes. It is going to be very warm for the next week with summer returning and it will not help fishing much with the high pressure but it will get better soon. The thermocline remains near 30-feet but is not as pronouced as it was. Several fish are in the 18-23 ft. range with Bluegill Shallower. Any time you find Bluegill you will find Catfish. The lake turnover usually occurs in early October and fishing gets good after the water clears and the thermocline is gone. After the middle of October and all of November are excellent times to catch big fish but some good ones are being caught everyday. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental is on their off-season rates and you can get a 1-bedroom cabin for $69/day or a 2-bedroom for $89/day. 3&4 bedrooms are priced accordingly. A free stall for your boat comes with a cabin rental of 2-days or more.  Some charge for them. We do not. Compare prices and give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. It is nice here and the price is right. Scuba Steve will show you where his brush piles are located. We especially welcome Veterans and Police. You can launch here, park your trailer and step right on the dock. No need to go anywhere else or go down a cliff to get to the dock. We have a good set-up and a nice big dock. The big pool with slide is open.
