The lake level is 568.38 and has risen 6-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and spillway gates open to an equivalent of another 2-1/3rd generators. This has been the case for over a week. One generator is broken again. The surface water temperature has dropped again and is now about 70-degrees. The 1.1 inches of rain on Sunday cooled down the creeks with the runoff. The main lake remains in the low 70's. The White River at Newport is 24.15 feet and has been steady but high. They are letting out as much as they can withour flooding out everything downstream. The water is stained brown again in the Blackburns Creek area. The water level has varied the last week or so but not a lot. It starts to recede and then comes back up again when it rains. The result has been for a good spawn for the Bass and Crappie. Some have spawned, some are spawning and some are on the beds. The top-water bite has stared in the early mornings just at dawn and lasts until after sunrise on most mornings. It is now mostly White Bass, Hybrid Stripers and Small Stripers. The fish coming up in the evening are mostly Bass. Some Smallmouth are still biting on the old shoreline before the water rise on creature baits as are a few Bass and crappie on small spinner baits in the same places. Brown water warms faster in the sunshine but is cooler coming into the backs of the creeks as runoff. Things are changing everyday. It is time to get some live 3-inch Bluegill and catch some Flatheads. The lake is rising and the moon is small and Scuba Steve likes them. White Bass are coming to lights around docks after dark on shad. Fishing is getting good and so are Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental's prices on both cabins and boat rentals. You can still get a one bedroom cabin for $69/day and it comes with a free stall for your boat at our dock. You can launch right here. 2,3,4 bedroom cabins are priced accordingly.
