The lake level is 553.71 and is down 1-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with generation about 1/2 the time. The White River at Newport is 9.84 feet and low. There is no effort to drop the lake much past the top of the power pool of 553.75. The surface water temperature is 55-degrees and the water is churned up from the incessant wind on the main lake but still a good color for fishing. The wind is getting old. Fishing is getting better. Bink reported catching White bass and Smaller Blackbass back in shallow water back in Big Creek earlier in the week on soft plastics but caught a bunch of fish including White bass, Black Bass and Hybrids on his 1/2 inch white spoon in 29-ft. of water now. Things they are a changin. The ambient temperature is in the 50's today and cool for the first day of spring but the wind has lowered a bit and it needed too. It is still too high for Scuba Steve. He doens not like wind. He did not say the fish won't bite in the wind he just says he does not like it. He does not hate the fish bad enough to be miserable and not being able to fish where he wants too and he knows how to get out of it as well as anybody. On a flooded river you can not stop it but it just changes directions or swirls. March is 2/3rds over. Scuba Steve is fishing back in the windblown creeks on and around brush in 20-ft. of water with a grub and minnow when he is not fixing windblow broken stuff. You do not have to be a good plumber to own a resort but it sure helps. I thank my Uncle Walter for that. Being a Chemical Engineer got me this place and being a plumber keeps it going. You can still get a 1-bedroom cabin for $69 here at Blackburns but I do not know for how long. I got my homeowners insurance bill yesterday and it doubled with no claims. Property tax has doubled, resort insurance is up 50% and car insurance has also doubled and all with no claims. Something has to give. I will hold as long as I can and we here at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental want our many repeat customers to continue to be able to have an affordable vacation while keeping our policy of continued improvement at the best prices in the Ozarks. It is nice here. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. They just told us that our electric bill is going up 12.4 % next month mostly due to environmental requirements and closing coal plants. Scuba Steve wrote a thesis on clean coal burning and will not discuss how he feels about them closing here. It is a family show and we have no drama here at Blackburns and sell peace and quiet.
