The surface water temperature is 48-degrees and starting to rise again. The water is trying to clear and Scuba Steve could see his lure down about 4-feet yesterday. The White River at Newport is 14.05 feed and dropping and there has been no effort to drop the lake for the winter and now it is time for the spring rains. The lake overall is in excellent condition and at a good level for fishing. Fishing has just been fair but Bass fishing has been the best followed by Crappie. Stripers are ready to move to their spawning beds later this week and the night bite should start for them soon. Walleye are still up north from their spawn but will move back south soon and some are already. I do not know or care much where the White Bass are. The Bluegill have moved in to the creeks under docks bringing Bass and Catfish with them. Crappie are deep during the day but move up shallow to feed at dark and some very large ones are being caught. There are a large number of them about 10-inches long for some reason this year. Two years ago must have been a good spawn for them. The Game and Fish only stock Stripers and Hybrids on Norfork Lake so everything else is naturally spawning except Missouri stocks Walleye and I wish Arkansas would also. The Walleye rearing pond is now partially fixed but needs extensive repair. The Walleye Club should help with it rather than just promote catching or put pressure on Game and Fish to do it. The number of Walleye fishermen is increasing on Norfork lake as is the overall fishing pressure. A lot of people are moving here. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to be the best place with the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks.A free stall for your boat comes with a cabin rental of two days or more and you can launch right here.
