January 28,2025 Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
1/28/2025
The lake level is 552,96 and is the same as it was at this time yesterday with 4-hours of running both generators after two days of nothing. They refuse to drop the lake for the winter. The White River at Newport is 8.12 feet and low indicating not much is being released anywhere. The surface water temperature is 45+ degrees and there is not much chance of a Shad kill this year. That is good. The water clarity is stained a little brown and Scuba Steve could see his lure down about 3-feet. It should be more clear for the end of January. The lake oeverall is in good condition and at a good level. Fishing has slowed a bit the last few days for some reason. Striper, Hybrids, Bass, Crappie had been good but the only good bite now is Bass with most being Kentuckies. Some red meat fish are being caught but you have to work for them. Scuba Steve is catching Bass part way back in deep creeks around secondary points. Set your boat in 50-ft. of water and cast as far as you can to the bank with a 3-inch green grub on a 3/16th ounce jig head and allow it to sink on the way back to the boat. Do not drag it but use your rod to keep the lure sinking. It should be straight up and down when it gets to the boat. Watch for your line to twitch or stop dropping and set the hook. This method is best out of the wind. Striper fishermen were coveyed up west of the 101 bridge near Cow Point but most are gone now. When one of them catches a fish they all group around like Buzzards after road kill. Most were trollers but more and more are switching to spoons. I mostly fish brush piles and brush and trolling do not go very well together. The giant Crappie had been biting but I have to woek for them now. They have gone deep. It is to warm up nicely tomorrow with rain coming later in the week on Thursday. I bet I catch some right up until it rains me out. Now is the time to plan your spring fishing trip and summer family vacation. We have been working very hard to make more improvements here at Blackburns while continuing to have the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals in the Ozarks. It is nice here and the price is right. We especially welcome Veterans and Police and a free stall for your boat comes with your cabin rental. Compare prices and give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. We are family owned and family operated and are not for sale or have sold out. We like it here and so will you. Scuba Steve will show you his new brush piles.
