20 December 2024 Fishing Report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
12/20/2024
The lake level is 555.11 and has dropped 2-inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and spillway gates open to an equivalent of another 1-1/3rd generator. We have had two rain events this week totaling 1.7 inches and it has muddied up the creeks again but the main lake is still clear. The surface water temperature is 56-degrees but should drop with the cold front coming through today. The weather has been mild and the lake overall is in good condition and at a good level but too high for this time of year. The White River is 15.35 feet and rising with the heavy generation. If you are Bass fishing go part way back in the creeks where the brown water meets the clear water and beat the bank with a crank bait. Scuba Steve has been catching good fish everyday with a slow but steady bite for Crappie starting at about 3:PM casting a jig or grub tipped with a small minnow past the brush and letting it sink into it. At sunset the good bite starts for both Crappie and Stripers about 20-feet down on a minnow with a slip float. Fishing has been better everyday and continues until after dark. The waning moon is helping. I like this winter Crappie fishing pretty good and wait for it all year but had to upsize my tackle due to so many stripers biting the Crappie rig. I would like to be using a 4-lb. flurocarbon and a 1/16th ounce jig head on a 2-inch twister tail or Bobby Garland Baby Shad Blue Ice but they won't hold up very well on a 10-lb. Striper. I caught a few but do not like to be broken off and it does not happen to me very often. The 8-lb. test on a bait caster catches the stripers but slows the bite on the big Crappie which are line and trolling motor shy. For best results go against the wind and use your trolling motor sparingly and shut off spot lock.
