30-May 2024 Norfork lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
5/30/2024
The lake level is 558.28 and has risen about 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours. They need to drop the lake. They have been running one generator from 9:AM to 5:PM often but quit when it rains. The White River at Newport is 14.15 feet and rising. The surface water temperature is 78-70 degrees and rising slowly. The water is churned up from the holiday boat traffic expecially on mud and clay banks. There is a thermocline at 18-feet but not very big and not pronounced. The visibility is about 5-feet. Several fish of different species are in brush on pea gravel banks at the thermocline and are biting 1/4 ounce Bink's Spoons. I caught two walleye, two bass, one crappie and a striper all of the same brush pile yesterday. Scuba Steve puts in his own brush and will show you where they are when you get here. Some fish, mainly White Bass and Smaller stripers are on shad in open water across from Mallard Point and around Cranfield Island in 50-ft. of water. Bass are biting top-water, worms and single spins. The lake overall is in good condition and at a good level but not very much surge capacity for a big rain. Most crappie have finished spawning but a few are still near shallow wood back in the creeks. I am not finding big schools but some big fish. A lot of White Bass and small Stripers in the 5-7 pound range are being caught in open water with live scopes. They are a good crutch for poorer fishermen. Blackburns received no damage from the storms last weekend and was very fortunate. Others were not and we feel badly for them. Come on down to Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental and we will not charge you too much and a free stall at our dock comes with the cabin rental.
