If they keep this up it will drop quickly despite the rain. We did not get the predicted rain yesterday or last night and we received a 4-day total of 1.9 inches and most of it sank in with little runoff. The ambient temperature is to get very warm starting tomorrow and should really get things going. The surface water temperature remains stubbornly low at 64-degrees with the cold fronts and cloudy weather and has slowed the top-water action. It has started sporatically but is not consistant and is mostly bass and White bass. The White River at Newport is 7.40 ft. and rising indicating more water is being released into it from both Bull Shoals and Norfork. The water is clear on the main lake and stained a little green in the creeks but a lot of fish are in the creeks at various stages of spawn and it is a good color and not muddy. Last year's spawn of Bluegill have moved in under Blackburns Dock and that is a sure sign Big Bass and Catfish are closeby. Bass and Flathead Catfish love 2-3 inch Bluegill. Walleye, Stripers and White Bass have finished spawning and Crappie and Bass are at vatious stages with some being finished, some on beds and some staging. I saw some freshly hatched Bass near the shore along with males on the nests yesterday. Things are a week or two behind but will catch up fast now. I am ready for the spawned out Crappie to move back to the main lake point brush piles. The big ones come back first and then the smaller ones. It takes about a month or more until the smaller ones are finished. Overall the lake is in excellent condition and at a good level and fishing is getting better everyday. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental is still the home of the $59/day one bedroom cabins and $79/day two bedrooms. Three and four bedrooms are priced accordingly and a free stall for your boat at our dock comes with the cabin rental of two days or more. All cabins are individual with no duplexes and all either have big covered or screened-in porches to get out of the weather. Come on down to Blackburns and we will not charge you too much.
