March 10,2024 Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region fishing report by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental
3/10/2024
The lake level is 553.59 and has risen 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with no generation for three days. We did receive about 0.3 inches of rain yesterday at about 4:PM and it rained hard for a few minutes. It was very dark and a lot went around us. The lake stained up a little with no water flow but is still fairly clear and Scuba Steve could see his lure down about 8-feet on the main lake and 6-feet in the creeks. The water has cooled just a bit and is 54 degrees on the main lake and 56 in the creeks with the cloudy days and cool nights. The water temperature was 53-degrees and the level was 558.97 on this date last year. The average ambient high temperature is 57-degrees. They flooded us out at the end of March last year. This is a typical March as far as fishing goes and the cold fronts just keep coming through shutting down the fishing for a few days. The water warms and then cools again and the fish are all scattered out. Some are back in the creeks on brush in about 25-ft. of water, some on the banks in the afternoon after a day of sunshine and others are still in open water on shad. The big numbers of trollers that were in Howards Creek catching White Bass and small Stripers are gone and having a hard time catching anything. They are looking far and wide. I am starting to catch a few walleye so they must be coming back downstream from the spawn. Bass fishing is the best now and it is not good. A good tip is to fish any cover back in windblown creeks in 25-30 ft. of water. The night bite for stripers should start just before the full moon in March which is the 25th on stick baits. Walleye will be in the same places. The White Bass are gone so they must be upstream spawning. I do not fish for them anyway but they are fun to catch but so are carp. Some are clipping a weight in front of a crank bait and dragging it near the shoreline. Not much skill involved but you can catch some fish if you go far enough for a long time. I would rather watch paint dry and it is hard on motors and burns a lot of expensive gas. It is getting higher every week. The same people pay too much for their cabins and go get gas in cans and bring it down to the dock to save money and not buy it from a marina. Go figure. Blackburns will have no price increases for 2024 and some have raised them already this spring and are planning another increase next week. You can get a 0ne bedroom cabin for $59/day here and it comes with a free stall for your boat in our dock. Some even charge for that. We do not. Come on down. We will not charge you too much. Call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation before we fill up and you have to pay way too much elsewhere. We are the first to fill up and for a good reason. It looks like spring with the Redbuds, Dogwoods and Bradford Pears in full bloom but you cannot trust March. The lake overall is at a good level and in good condition but fishing is fair at best but some good ones are being caught everyday.
