Both generators are still inoperable. The White River at Newport is 20.82 feet so a lot of water is going into the river with the recent rains, melting snow and frost going out of the ground. The creeks have been running pretty hard. The surface water temperature is 45-degrees and the clarity is not the best and Scuba Steve can see his lure down about 3-4 feet on the main lake and less in the creeks. It is stained a greenish brown. The cold weather was followed by rainy weather and now it is nice again for the next week. We do not need any more rain for a while. The overall lake is in good condition and at a good level but is too high for this time of year with the upcoming spring rains on the way. I would like to see it about 7-feet lower but they have had all winter to lower it and refuse. Fishing is just fair but some nice ones are being caught everyday. Trollers are catching some smaller stripers in the 5-8 pound range in deep water and some Bass and White Bass are with them. Crappie and Bass fishermen have been fishing brush piles in 18-30 ft. of water with some fish being right in the brush and some just around the edges. Some bass are also feeding near the shore just around main lake points to the inside just at and after sunset. The best fishing is from sunset to dark. I am using jigs and jigs tipped with minnows on windy days on brush and on calm days vertical jigging a small spoon slowly. Also try casting the jig past the brush and letting it sink into it. Use a 3-inch grub on a jig head for the shallow bass. Blackburns is open all year and has the best prices on cabins and rental boats in the Ozarks. Come on down. We will not charge you too much and a free stall for your boat comes with the cabin. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. No we are not for sale.
