November 22,2023 Fishing Report and lake Condition for Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region by Scuba Steve at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

The lake level is 553.44 and creeping up but very stable for several weeks with no discharge from the dam except for minimum flow. Both generators are still inoperable. They have not been letting out much water into the White River and the level at Newport is very low and is at 2.65 feet. The surface water temperature is 62-degrees and dropping slowly. The water clarity is good both on the main lake and in the creeks and is a good color for fishing. The lake turned over early in late September and fishing has not been very good since then. Bass and crappie were the best bite but they have slowed and open water fish including all temperate bass is getting a little better on shad but is also poor. They are looking far and hard for any feeding fish with just a few being caught. White Bass are the best bite. Fishing is usually very good in late November but has not picked up very much yet. I am catching a few crappie, bass, walleye and bluegill but they bite for about 20-minutes and then quit for several hours. The evening just before dark is the best time. The fish sense when the weather is going to cool in the fall and start feeding before winter but that has not happened yet. I expect it to start any day but i have also expected it to start for about 3-weeks. Fishing is always tough in October, which is usually the worst month of the year but it has continued up to now. Your best bet is to use live minnows on a slip float and set the depth about 5-feet further than you can see your bait right over main lake brush piles in 18-25 feet of water for crappie, Kentucky Bass and Bluegill. Otherwise use a small spoon in the same place. Some are trolling around all over the lake looking for shad and feeding fish in open water. They are not haveing any trouble finding schools of shad, which are everywhere, but finding feeding fish is the problem. If you do drop a jigging spoon on their heads. After you catch one or two they are gone and I get tired of looking. I will let you know when things get better. The lake is in good condition and at a good level but fishing is fair overall at best. For a daily report go to Scuba Steve's Blog for details. Blackburns has the best prices on both cabins and boat rentals and also the best brush piles on the lake. We will show you where they are when you get here. Come on down. We will not charge you too much. I quit diving about two weeks ago and was seeing a lot of fish so they are there.
