We have been both scuba diving and pole fishing this month and know where the fish are located. Image titleImage titleImage titleImage titleImage titleImage titleThe lake level is 557.19 and has risen 2-3/4 inches in the last 24-hours with no discharge for three days, They did open sluice gates equal to one generator a couple of hous ago. The White River at Newport is 6.93 feet and ahs leveled off. We have received about 6-inches of rain in the last week in five different events. It seems to rain every night. The lake has been rising slowly and now is approaching too high again with no effort to drop it all summer. 560 is when things start to get too high. The surface water temperature is 85-degrees and the thermocline is at 27-feet. The water is clear down to 25-feet and is cold at 30-feet. Some crappie have moved into the brush at 25-32 feet and are roaming and not biting very well. There is a lot of baitfish out there. A slip float on a live minnow just above the brush is working the best. The night bite for bass is slowing with a black light and salt craw but some nice ones are still being caught. The rising water and little moon is good for catfish on jugs and trotlines on live bait and some cut bait is also working for channels and some blues. A few stripers are being caught on jigging spoons in 50-70 feet of water suspended at various depths depending on where the shad are. Some Whites and larger Walleye are with them. Fishing overall is just fair but some nice ones are being caught everyday. The lake is in very good condition but I would like it to be lower so there is more surge capacity.  Smaller walleye are on and around main lake brush near the bottom at 30-32 feet and can be caught on the smaller jigging spoon. Trollers are catching a few but are mostly small and they are traveling a long way to get them. Blackburns goes on their off-season rates right after Labor Day and remain the home of the $59/day one bedroom cabins. Come on down and we will not charge you too much and a free stall for your boat comes with the cabin. If you are not staying at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental you are paying too much.
