22 July 2023 Norfork Lake Fishing Report and Lake Condition By Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
7/22/2023
The lake level is 556.97 and is creeping up slowly. The generators are still inoperable but they did open up sluice gates equivalent to 2/3rds of a generator for 10-hours yesterday after 5-days of letting out nothing. The White River at Newport is 4.96 feet and very low indicating not much water is being let out anywhere. The surface water temperature is 87-degrees and the themocline is at 23-feet with clear water down to 16-feet and a mud line after that to the thermocline with little visibility. There are a lot of fish on main lake points near brush from 20-25 feet including bass, walleye and a few crappie. If you see some bass early feeding on top they are eating lethargic shad damaged by stripers deeper and the stripers will be right below that but this is not happening often now nearly as much as before as the stripers continue to go deeper and are in 60-70 ft. of water near the bottom. Drop a spoon on their head. Night fishing with a black light and saltcraw is producing some nice bass. Catfishing is fair on drop-shotted jugs with live bait and trotlines in the backs of the creeks. Prepared bait is working off docks. Bluegill are biting on crickets in the shade off docks. Some White bass are roaming around main lake points in 25-ft. of water about 5-feet off the bottom. It is a typical late July report but the lake is not flooded out and is at a good level. It rained yesterday but the weather is to be good all this coming week and a good time to visit Blackburns before school starts. The children will like swimming in the big pool with slide and feeding the fish and turtles off the dock. Come on down and we will not charge you too much. We especially welcome Veterans and Police. The drought is over for now and everything is very green.
