The lake level is 557.19 and has dropped 6-inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and spillway gates open to an equivalent of another 1-2/3rds generators. The White River at Newport is 20.96 feet and dropping and they are regulating to about 21-feet. The surface water temperature is in the low 60's and we could get a frost tonight. The coild fronts just keep coming through but we have missed the severe weather that has been all around us. The water is still stained a little tea colored in Blackburns area but is trying to clear despite the quickly dropping water and wind. You can now see your lure down about 4-feet and it is a good color for fishing. The crappie spawn is in full swing and the bass are wanting to spawn badly but do not like the rapidly dropping water. They are predicting the lake will reach the top of the power pool of 553.75 on May 2nd and when that happens the power company takes over generation schedules and typically slow down generation quickly and close flood gates. Many bass will move to the banks when that happens. There is a top-water bite at sunrise on warm mornings but not cold ones. If they do not come up to the surface you can still call them up from a few feet down with a good top-water presentation if you know where they are. They typically come up in the same places every spring. If you find any bait part way back in the windblown creeks use a 2-1/2 inch swim bait. White is a good color but green will aslo work.
