April 10, 2023 Fishing Report and Lake Conditions By Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
4/10/2023
The lake level is 564.20 and has dropped 3-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator tunning continuously and spillway gates open to an equavalent 0f another 1.4 generators. The White River at Newport is 23.86 feet and dropping and the surface water is 58-degrees on the main lake and a little warmer back in the creeks in shallow brown water. The lake had risen 10-feet with the big rain a couple of weeks ago but is down a couple of feet now. The water is slow clearing and is still tea colored from Red Bank to 62-bridge but is much more clear south of there. The water is not muddy and the color does not affect fishing. It is very clear down by the dam but the fishing is not good there. You can find whatever water clarity that you prefer. We are not expecting any rain for the next week so the lake should continue to drop and clear. Male Crappie are staging for spawn back in Pigeon, Middle Pigeon, East Pigeon, Briar Creek and Twin Coves and are being caight on jigs off the bank a few feet. Black Bass have moved to their normal spring banks and are being caught on crank biats and creature baits. Trollers are catching a few White Bass and small stripers on shad partway back in the creeks. The top-water bite for bass has just started both morning and evening but are mostly small bass. The temperate top-water bass bite will begin in earnest soon. It usually starts on about April 15th or when surface water temperature hits 60 on the main lake. Overall fishing is just fair but some nice ones are being caught everyday. Blackburns still has 1-bedroom cabins for $59/day and they come with a free stall for your boat. We are closest to Mountain Home, dining and shopping and also have the best prices on Boat Rentals. Come on down. We will not charge you too much and especially welcome Veterans and Police.
