We are approaching the top of the power pool where Southwestern Power takes over the generation schedule and typically slow it way dow. It may be short lived though as we are expecting significant rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. The White River at Newport is 17.66 feet and dropping. Both the main lake and the creeks are stained a brownish green and I could see my lure down only a couple of feet last evening. Cold fronts just keep coming through slowing fishing just as it starts to pick up. It is a typical late February and early March pattern and can be some of the toughest fishing all year. The surface water temperature is 49 on the main lake and in the early 50's back in the creeks. The best chance for fish is to go back in the windblown creeks and look for bait fish in 32-35 feet of water and drop a spoon. There will be predator fish with them including bass, crappie and temperate bass. When the cold front moves through and the wind shifts to from the south it blows the baitfish back out to the main lake. Walleye are up the river spawning with some being finished and the White Bass are staging and starting in the same area. Some bass and a few crappie are on main lake brush in 25-30 feet of water but not a lot. Things will get better soon and the middle of April through the end of May can be the best fishing of the year. Come on down to Blackburns and we will show you where our new brush piles are located. There will be no price increases on anything again this year. We do not want to charge you too much and want you to have an affordable vacation. If you are not staying at Blackburns you are paying too much and your first boat stall is free here. We especially welcome Veterans and Police.
