21 November 2022 Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns resort and Boat rental On Norfork Lake Near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region
11/21/2022
The lake level is 552.06 and has dropped 1.2 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running for about 5-hours in the morning, taking the middle of the day off an then about five more hours in the afternoon. It is 1-1/2 feet below the top of the power pool. The White River at Newport is at 4.86 feet so they are not letting out much anywhere. It has taken it since November 6th to drop one foot and the surface water temperature has dropped seven degrees since then with very cold temperatures. The surface water is just under 60-degrees on the main lake and a few degrees lower in the shallow water back in the creeks. Both the main lake and creeks are stained green and you can see your lure down less than two feet. The fishing is not the best right now but you can catch fish in two different ways. Go from just around the point at Mallard Point and look to the last dock west from 20-feet of water in the morning to about 40-ft. as the sun comes up for broken schools of shad. Leave the black balls alone and look for ones with dots, arcs and lines around them and drop a 1/2 ounce Bink's Spoon right on their heads. It is hard to stay on them in the wind and after you catch one but a variety of fish are on the shad. More and more different species of fish are on shad in open water now that most of the big stripers are gone. Another place to start looking is just across from Bidwell Point on the east side as the river goes north in front of the docks. It is more out of the north wind. It is very difficult to stay on open water fish in the wind and expect to do more looking than fishing. Another way is to go out in the late afternoon about 3:PM and beat the shadowy banks part way back in a creek that the wind has been blowing into and fish until dark. I use a small white grub tipped with a live minnow or you can use a gulp minnow. You will get at least three times as many fish this way than using just a bare jig or grub but will catch more smaller fish but just as many big ones. I am just not catching many fish on brush right now. When the water gets colder try a 3-inch Mann's avacodo grub on a 3/16th ounce or 1/4 ounce jig head and fish back in the creeks around points that are next to deep water. Keep your boat in about 40-ft. of water and cast to the shore and keep the grub just on or just above the bottom as it drops into deeper water on it's own It has no action but is dealy for winter bass. The heavier jig head works better but gets snagged more than the lighter one. Fishing is tough right now but you can catch some if you know how. There will be no price increases at Blackburns this year so if your so called friends charge you too much give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115. We have it all here and at the best price.
