The White River at Newport is 3.9 feet so they are not letting out much water anywhere. The surface water temperature is 66-degrees and the main lake is pretty clear with the creeks a little stained. The water warms more quicky in the creeks than on the main lake with the unseasonable warm ambient temperatures and then cools down again and the fish are moving back and forth trying to stay in the warmest water. It has been windy most days until recently and more is coming today. Fishing windblown banks with a crank bait has been the best for bass.  When the wind quits the fog moves in early. Open water fishermen are dragging everything they can hook onto through shad and catching some decent sized white bass and a few Hybrids in the 3-lb. range and smaller stripers but are having to work hard for them. I continue to fish main lake points and just around them in brush at 20-25-ft. of water near the bottom for walleye and on top of the brush for crappie. Fishing is not the best but a few good ones are being caught everyday. There are a lot of nice sized bluegill shallow on brush and under docks. Small sooons and crickets are best for them. Try a 1/4 ounce Bink's Spoon in the brush on calm days and a 2-inch jig on windy days casting it past the brush and letting it sink into it. Crappie are mostly hitting on the drop right over brush. Catfishing has slowed with the full moon approaching. There could be an after dark bite for stripers on a stickbait starting about Monday but it is not for sure. It is fun when it happens. The lake is in excellent condition and fishing overall is just fair. Come on down to Blackburns and we will not charge you too much. A one bedroom cabin is $59/day for two people and a two bedroom is $77/ day for four people. Can't beat that and they come with a free stall for your boat. Scuba Steve knoiws where the fish are but cannot make them bite. Sometimes. For a daily report go to Scuba Steve's Blog.
