October 16,2022 Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains region Fishing Report by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
10/16/2022
The lake level is 553.13 and has dropped 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with 3/4 of a generator running for about 5-hours. It has taken almost 3-weeks to drop the last foot with minimum generation. The surface water temperature is 72-degrees and is dropping very slowly at this time but cold weather is on it's way the next couple of days and a frost is predicted. The lake is clearing nicely after the turnover a couple of weeks ago and fishing is getting better and better including bass, crappie and walleye. Trollers are catching a few temperate bass but they are not very big and they are travelling a lot of miles to get them. The wind has been incessant for several days and it is supposed to go down after the cold front on Monday. We have had 0.1 inches of rain since September 6th and it is very dry. Bass fishermen are doing well fishing the wind blown banks with crank baits, creature baits and other soft plastics. Crappie fishermen are fishing brush in 14-30-feet of water on main lake points but some are also on river channel banks. Small spoons, jigs and live minnows on slip floats are all working. Walleye are in brush on main lake points in 30-ft. of water on jigging spoons tapping bottom but some are also shallow in the evening on soft plastics. The larger ones are in the brush or right around it just a few feet off bottom. More fish are on the main lake than in the creeks especially the larger ones. The top-water bite is mostly just small bass. The lake overall is in excellent condition and you can see your lure down 6-7 feet. November is my favorite time to fish especially for large crappie. Come on down. We will not charge you too much. Blackburns is still the home of the $59/day one bedroom cabins and $77/day two bedroom. We will not charge you too much and a free stall for your boat comes with the cabin on stays of two days or more. No need to go elsewhere to launch but we will help you if needed. We know where the fish are.
