The lake level is 561.17 and has risen 2-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with less than one generator running for about 8-hours. The surface water temperature is in the low 60's and rising and the water is clearing with the light generation. It is a good color for fishing. The crappie are in various stages of spawn with some finished, some spawning and some full of eggs. The fish are scattered all over the lake and are even in the main lake on shad. Some very large ones are being caught. Black bass are starting to spawn and a few have finished but I have seen no fry. Temperate bass are coming up some mornings but not like they useally do in early May. They should be coming up everyday but are not. The early morning after a warm night is the best chance. Trollers are catching some stripers and crappie on planer boards free-swimming shiners shallow. When they do come up bass and walleye are with the temperate bass. Everything is in transition now but people are catching good fish everyday using various methods. Using a small jig, grub, popper or creature bait on the bank behind the buckbrush is catching about everything as is fishing brush piles in about 20-ft. of water back in the creeks. Some male crappie are still guarding nests and fry on any wood shallow back in the creeks.  Catfish are part way back in the creeks and hitting live bait on throw lines and off docks. Get out early, take the middle of the day off and go back out again around 5:PM for best results. Keep a top-water lure handy. Blackburns Still has cabins for $59/day so come on down. We will not charge you too much and you first boat stall is free. Why pay more?
