The lake level is 553.17 and has risen 2-inches in the last 24-hours with generation about 1/3rd the time. The White River at Newport is 17-feet and the lake surface water temperature is in the mid-50's. It has been very windy and hard to fish. I just dumped 2-inches of rain from my gauge and it is still raining. The creeks are running but not fast. Another cold front is on it's way followed by very warm ambient temperatures late this weekend. The cold fronts have been coming through at least once a week for about two months now but are better than severe weahter which we have not had any. The lake is at a good level now but there is not much surge capacity for a big rain. The water is stained a little green but a good color for fishing. The stripers are finishing up their spawn now and most of the walleye have finished and some have moved to the main lake points near brush. White Bass are the same but are moving back to the larger creeks in the bays and will begin top-water in a couple of weeks or less.  All of april and all of may are the best months of the combination of both weather and fishing. Black Bass are pre-spawn feeding now and are the best bite and crappie are just getting ready with the males staging back in the creeks near any wood. They will begin in earnest in april. The ones that I am catching are full of eggs with big blood-lines. It just needs to warm up a bit and it will soon but definitely not today or tomorrow. The ground is saturated and the warm weather will bring out the mushrooms.  Come on down to Blackburns where we will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free. Our 1-bedroom cabins start at $59/day and the 2-3-4 bedrooms are priced accordingly. Every cabin has a big covered forch and there are no duplexes. You can launch right here and there is no need to go elsewhere to do so and we will help you if needed. We especially welcome Police and Veterans.
