The lake level is 554.22 and has dropped 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with generation about 1/2 the time. The White River at Newport is about 22-ft. and they are letting out quite a bit of water at this time from all of the area lakes about equally. The warm sunny weather is warming the water rapidly especially in the shallow creeks and shoreline. It was 55-degrees in Blackburns creek yesterday and 48 on the main lake. That will change this weekend with rain followed by another cold front. The creeks are very clear and the main lake varies a bit with the amount of generation but is an excellent color for fishing. The water is very clear near the bank. Some bait fish are moving to the warmest water  causing predator fish to follow them and the plankton is blowing with the wind followed by the shad and other predator fish. If the wind changes from south to north , which happens frequently, everything gets all mixed up which is typical for March. The 80-degree weather is not. We will be back to the 50's with below freezing nightime lows after it clears off after the next cold front. That is why fishing is not predictable during March except the stripers will move to their spawning banks just before the full moon which is the 18th and can be caught on the suspending stick bait at dark. Some big bass are back in the creeks and some are in open water on shad. I see nothing on the beds or making nests. The water temperature says yes but the calendar says no. Some crappie have moved back into the creeks and some are still on brush but much shallower. The ones that I am catching are only 5-7 feet down and are very spooky so stay away from the brush and cast to it. Do not park over the brush and set yout trolling motor on anchor and expect to catch very many. Maybe just one. Some walleye are on the shadowy banks part way back in the creeks before sunset on soft plastics. Some go up river to spawn and some just go back in the major creeks. There used to be a late february, early march, run up into Missouri   to spawn but not so much anymore. This is the best time to catch White Bass back in the major creeks in big flat bays. Come on down to Blackburns where all of the cabins are individual with no duplexes and all have big covered porches. Rent a boat from us or bring your own. The first stall is free here and we have no price increases for 2022 and expecially welcome Police and Veterans.
