The lake level is 553.34 and is dropping very slowly with minimum generation. The White River at Newport is over 19-feet. The surface water is 51 degrees and both the main lake and creeks are stained green with low visibility. Cold fronts come through regularly slowing the fishing and then it gets better until the next one comes. Bess, crappie, bluegill and temperate bass are the best bite right now using various methods.  Walleye have slowed. I am using the 1/4 ounce jigging spoon for crappie and bluegill and the 3-inch stingray grub for bass. Crappie are moving from brush in the 20-ft. range during the day to the banks in the evening and some black bass are with them. Some black bass are in open water on shad. Bink is catching all kinds of temperate bass deep right on the bottom on his 1/2 ounce or 3/4 ounce spoon. It is good to see some White Bass with some size to them. People are still killing many stripers in the 5-8 pound range. They are on shad in the area between 101 Bridge and Cranfield Island and again in Big Creek. The ones south are deeper on the bottom and the ones around here are in open water from 40-50 ft. suspended at various depths. People are using spoons and trolling umbrellas. It has been cold but is much better now with ambient temperaters in the 50's for the next several days with thursday to be the pick of the litter. Fishing is about normal for this time of year but the water temperature has not dropped to below 50 yet. I had a 49 several days ago but it is back up now. Last year it was much colder. The lake is in good condition as far as level is concerned and the color is getting better. We need to be several feet lower going into the spring to help prevent high water but there is a reluctance to do so. The power pool is 553.75 and we are barely in it. Fishing overall is fair but has good days. The light snow we received last week is gone and the weather is nice. It is good to have the wind die for a few days. It has been relentless.
