The lake level is 553.34 and has been within about 3/4 of a foot for several weeks with very little generation and no effort to drop the lake. The water is clear and you can see your lure down about 6-ft. on the main lake. The surface water temperature is between 59 and 60 degrees and has also been stable for several weeks. It held in there at 60-61 for a month. The late fall fishing has finally started and that means big crappie, bass and walleye. I always say Thanksgiving is an excellent time to catch fish and I was just a couple of days off but it is now happening. Fishing had just been fair for several weeks but now is being up graded to good. I do not say this lightly as I do not induce customers to come when the fishing is poor. Bass, crappie, walleye and bluegill fishing is good and temperate bass fishing is poor and most of the ones being caught are small (in the 5-8 pound range). Some White Bass are being caught but not nearly as many as usual. Trollers are having a hard time. Many schools of shad are holding no predator fish but some are and the fishing can be fast for a couple of minutes and then they are gone. Spooning brush is the best bite now in about 30-ft. of water. Drop the spoon in and around the brush near the bottom. Some giant crappie were caught yesterday by Blackburns customers along with several bass and walleye. More again today. All were using the spoon. I switch from a spoon, Bobby Garland Baby Shad and slip float with a minnow depending on the wind. It has calmed down for the last few days but has been incessant all month with cold fronts coming through about twice a week. We have not received our normal amount of rain for November and it has been much less. The lake overall is in excellent condition and fishing for some species is good and others are poor to fair. You need to fish for what is biting and not be set on a particular kind or you will be disappointed. This changes almost daily this time of year as cold fronts come through. We are catching a lot of good sized fish here at Blackburns now. Bass fishing has improved the most and the big crappie are finally showing up. Come on down to Blackburns and we will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free. We especially welcome Veteran and Police.
