The lake level is 557.16 and has dropped a little over three inches in the last 24-hours with 1-1/2 generators running most of the time. It is taking about 4-days to drop a foot. 555.75 is the power pool and they tend to slow down generation as this approaches but we will see. It is at a good level now but there is no room for any big rains. They have been all around us but we have been fortunate to miss all of them. The surface water temperature is 87 degrees and has been near there for several weeks. The main lake looks clear from the surface but is cloudy down to the 30+ foot thermocline. The creeks are stained a little green but a good color for fishing. It will settle now that the last summer holiday is over and the boat traffic lessens and the water temperature drops. Spooning continues to be the best overall fishing technique but working the bank in the evening with soft plastics and worms is catching some good bass. Some fish are coming up back in the creeks in the evening. There is a lot of baitfish out there especially in the buckbrush near the shore. Drop a spoon in brush at 32-35 feet of water and tap bottom. Bass and crappie will hit on the drop and walleye are near and around the bush on the bottom. Trollers are catching s few stripers but they are small in the 5-6 pound range. Bluegill fishing is excellent on crickets and worms but some are also biting small spoons. Fishing will get better and better as we get into October and the weather looks to be excellent for at least a week. November is usually the best month for fishing except for May. Come on down to Blackburns. We will not charge you too much.
